Today, members of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) elected Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) to serve as chairman of the caucus for a two-year term beginning in January.

The RSC has been the voice of conservative Republicans in the U.S. House since 1973. With the sweeping results of the November election, the RSC is expected to have a record-high of more than 160 members in January.

“I thank my fellow members for the opportunity to lead and continue the strong RSC tradition. I believe strongly in the principles and values that unite our members and look forward to leading a group that will fight for conservative principles, develop policy and be a forum for common sense solutions and ideas.”

“It is important that the new Congress remembers the message the American people sent on election day,” said Jordan. “People want Congress to stop the out-of-control spending, reverse the expansion of government into people’s personal lives, and put America back on a fiscally-responsible track.”

Jordan said that he is particularly excited about the potential impact the dozens of new Republicans elected in November’s wave election will have.

“These newly-elected Republicans are the cavalry, sent by the American people to Washington to change things,” said Jordan. “If we are going to tackle the budget and make the type of changes we need, it is critical that our new members stand strong on principle as we move into the majority."

Jordan currently serves as chairman of the RSC Budget and Spending Task Force and succeeds outgoing Chairman Tom Price (GA-06). Jordan was elected in November to his third term representing Ohio’s Fourth Congressional District. A native of Champaign County, Ohio, Jordan graduated from the University of Wisconsin, where he was a two-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion. He later became assistant wrestling coach at the Ohio State University, where he earned his masters degree. Jordan received his law degree from Capital University.

He was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1994, serving three terms before being elected twice to the Ohio Senate. In Congress, Jim Jordan has fought to cut taxes, reduce the size of government, protect traditional American values, balance the budget, secure America’s borders and provide a strong national defense. He serves on the Budget, Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees in the House.
