Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) made the following statement regarding tonight’s State of the Union Address from President Barack Obama:

“I don’t think the hard-working families of Ohio heard anything new from the President tonight.  In fact, they heard more of the same type of expensive but ineffective proposals that helped create the $18 trillion national debt we have today.  Middle class families across the country understand something that Washington does not: we simply cannot keep spending money we don’t have.

“If the President’s big government ideas worked, then our problems would have been solved a long time ago.  Instead, for the past six years we have piled more and more debt on future generations of Americans with little economic growth to show for it.

“Republicans must lead the way in showing middle class Americans that we are committed to making our government work for them.  We need to empower the middle class through fiscally responsible legislation that rewards work, encourages economic growth, repeals the job-killing ObamaCare mandates, and simplifies our unfair tax code.  These common sense principles would unite Republicans and provide a large policy area in which the President can seek compromise with the newly-elected Congress.”

Last week, Rep. Jordan delivered a keynote speech at Heritage Action’s Conservative Policy Summit, where he called for Republicans in Congress to advocate for a bold legislative agenda in the 114th Congress. To watch the full speech, click here: (at the one-hour mark)
