Government Reform

I agree with most Ohioans that our Federal Government spends far too much and is overly large, cumbersome and bureaucratic. Many of the roles currently filled by government agencies would be better left to individuals, private businesses and non-profit organizations. I take my government oversight responsibilities very seriously, and am well-positioned to work on this issue from my seat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. During the 114th Congress I will continue to consider and propose ways to reduce government spending and eliminate redundancy in government agencies.

National Review Editorial Board: Impeach the IRS Commissioner

"A weaponized IRS put to partisan political ends constitutes an unbearable assault on American democracy and undermines the very institutions of government itself. It cannot be allowed to go unanswered. John Koskinen has got to go, voluntarily or not." 6/16/2016

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) today questioned former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran during a hearing before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee regarding H.R. 2802, the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA). Cochran, 2012 fire chief of the year, was fired for believing in traditional marriage, even though a city investigation found that he had never acted in a discriminatory manner in any way. Under FADA, the federal government would be prohibited from discriminating against those who believe in traditional marriage.

Of the hearing Rep. Jordan said:

"The First Amendment Defense Act is common-sense legislation that protects religious liberty—the backbone of our great nation. Under FADA, the federal government would be barred from revoking grants, contracts, accreditation, or licenses from individuals or institutions based on the personal views they hold on the definition of marriage.

Opinion Pieces

For those who wonder why the vast majority of regular Americans think Washington, D.C., is rigged against them, just look at today's headlines.

They show that the elite and well-connected in Washington play by a different set of rules.

When testifying before the Benghazi Select Committee in October of 2015, Hillary Clinton said to us under oath, "there was nothing marked classified on my emails, either sent or received."

We now know that statement is patently false, according to the FBI. Sadly, it isn't the only false statement she has tried to push.
