House Expected to Authorize Construction of New VA Clinic in Mansfield

May 12, 2009
Legislation debated today by the House of Representatives authorizes significant funding for a new veterans clinic in Mansfield, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has announced.

H.R. 5856, the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Facility Authorization and Lease Act, approves various VA construction projects and medical facility leases for Fiscal Year 2009. Included in the bill is language authorizing the VA to construct a new 27,500-square-foot outpatient clinic in Mansfield at a cost of $2,212,000.

"Having visited Mansfield's VA clinic last year, I know firsthand the great services it provides to area veterans," Jordan said. "The new facility authorized in this bill will allow for greater coordination between primary care and mental health services available to our veterans in the region."

Formal passage of H.R. 5856 is expected later this week. The bill will then head to the Senate for consideration.

Overall VA spending for Fiscal Year 2009 will be determined in separate legislation later this year.
