Jordan Announces Federal Grant for St. Mary's Fire Department

May 6, 2009
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced that the Department of Homeland Security has approved a $209,095 operations and safety grant for the St. Marys Fire Department.

"This is outstanding news for the City of St. Marys," Jordan said. "This funding will help the city's first responders better prepare to fight fires and save lives."

The funding is made available through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, funded at $550 million in the current award round. Roughly 18,000 career and volunteer fire departments applied for funding this year, submitting requests totaling more than $2.3 billion.

The grant is the largest award to an Auglaize County department in the six-year history of the AFG Program. St. Marys also received AFG funding in 2004 and 2005.

Since the Program's inception in 2001, more than $9.3 million has been awarded to fire departments in the Fourth District--more than $1.2 million to Auglaize County departments alone.
