Jordan Announces Grant For Bluffton Fire Department
May 7, 2009
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced today that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has approved a $39,206 operations and safety grant for the Bluffton Fire Department.
"Competition for federal funding is always tough, and Bluffton is a most deserving recipient," Jordan said. "This grant will help Bluffton's first responders be better prepared to fight fires and save lives."
The funding is made available through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, through which DHS will award roughly $500 million to fire departments and other emergency responders across the nation this year. More than 20,000 funding applications requesting a total of $3.1 billion were filed in the current grant round.
Since the program's inception in 2001, more than $10 million has been awarded to fire departments in Ohio's Fourth Congressional District. Bluffton received $92,324 in AFG Program funding in 2005.
