Jordan Announces Grant for Marion County's First Consolidated Fire District
May 13, 2009
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced today that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has approved a $157,423 operations and safety grant for the First Consolidated Fire District in Caledonia.
The funding is made available through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, through which DHS will award roughly $500 million to fire departments and other emergency responders across the nation this year.
"This is outstanding news for Caledonia," Jordan said. "Competition for firefighter grants is always tough, and it's a tribute to the fire district that its application was approved."
The funding will be put toward the purchase of new turnout gear, self-contained breathing apparatuses, and related equipment. Jordan wrote to DHS last year in support of the fire district's application.
Since the program's inception in 2001, nearly $13 million has been awarded to fire departments in the Fourth District.
