Jordan Announces Participation in "Operation Hero Miles" Program

May 6, 2009
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced today that he and his chief of staff will donate frequent flier miles they earn on flights between Washington and Ohio to "Operation Hero Miles," a program that provides free domestic air transportation to families of soldiers in need.
The program, initiated by Maryland Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger in 2003, has provided transportation assistance to members of the Armed Forces on leave from Iraq and Afghanistan. It has since begun offering air transportation to soldiers with emergency travel needs, as well as free flights to the family members of wounded servicemembers to any of 14 U.S. military hospitals.

"We're pleased to play any part we can to help families reunite with their loved ones who have been wounded in service to their country," Jordan said. "Our men and women in uniform deserve our thanks, respect, and support both in and out of the battle."

Jordan's announcement was to coincide with a visit to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington today, but the visit had to be postponed due to scheduled votes on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Participants in Operation Hero Miles have donated more than 500 million frequent flyer miles since 2003. Information about the program is available at www.heromiles.com.
