Jordan to chair subcommittee hearing on corruption allegations at Export-Import Bank

On Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) will chair a hearing held by the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee's Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Job Creation and Regulatory Affairs. The hearing, entitled "Examining Allegations of Corruption at the Export-Import Bank," will examine recent allegations of corruption at the Bank and will evaluate the Bank's ethics programs and operational transparency.
The Honorable Fred Hochberg, chairman and president of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, will appear as witness, along with Ms. Diane Katz, research fellow in regulatory policy at the Heritage Foundation. Mr. Johnny Gutierrez, a former employee in the Short Term Trade Finance Division of the Export-Import Bank, is expected to appear as a witness as well, but under a subpoena.
Gutierrez was issued a subpoena on Thursday, July 24, 2014. He is alleged to have accepted cash payments and kickbacks in exchange for attempting to assist an applicant company secure taxpayer-backed Ex-Im financing.
