Jordan condemns federal funding of abortion following GAO report

September 16, 2014
The Government Accountability Office released a report today revealing that over 1,000 health insurance plans that include abortion can receive taxpayer subsidies.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) made the following comments after the report's release:

"This is yet another example of the Obama administration's disregard for the law and the will of the American people on the issue of abortion. Overwhelmingly Americans oppose using taxpayer dollars to fund elective abortion. Only by repealing this broken law and replacing it with legislation that puts patients first will we ensure that Americans are not forced to pay for abortions."

Republican congressional leaders asked the GAO for a report on abortion funding last December. In January, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act, to address the issue of abortion funding through taxpayer dollars.
