Jordan: Ex-Im Bank is ‘bridge to nowhere’ of corporate welfare, it’s time it goes

April 30, 2015
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) co-chaired a hearing today on the scandal and corruption-plagued Export-Import Bank. The hearing, titled "Examining the Export-Import Bank's Mandates," was a joint hearing of Rep. Jordan's Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Health Care, Benefits and Administrative Rules and Michigan Rep. Bill Huizenga's Financial Services Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade.

During the hearing, Rep. Jordan made the following comments:

"I can remember an issue around this Congress a few years back where important folks said we could never end earmarks. And then along came this ‘bridge to nowhere,' and suddenly Congress did what the American people wanted us to do: got rid of earmarks. I would say the same dynamic is at play here. The American people are fed up with corporate welfare. And the ‘bridge to nowhere' of corporate welfare is the Export- Import Bank. And it's time it goes. And again, all we have to do to end this is nothing. Just let it wind down in its natural course."
