Jordan Introduces $84 Billion in Spending Cuts
September 24, 2009
Today, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) offered the following comments on the defeat of his fiscally-responsible alternative to the Democrat spending package likely to pass on Friday:
"My proposal was a modest first step towards a balanced federal budget. There is no more important issue to the economic future of our country, so I will continue making the case that the federal government should tighten its belt instead of always asking the American people to do so."
Jordan's plan would have saved taxpayers $84 billion just by holding the line on non-defense spending to 2008 levels. The amendment was defeated on a party-line vote in House Rules Committee.
