Jordan Named Among "Best and Brightest" Conservatives in U.S. House

May 12, 2009
The American Conservative Union (ACU), the nation's oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization, has named Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) one of the House's "Best and Brightest" members for his 100-percent conservative voting record in 2007.

"Congressman Jordan's 100-percent rating reflects his consistent support for conservative ideals across a broad range of issues," said Larry Hart, the ACU's Director of Government Relations. "Grassroots conservatives in Ohio and across the country will continue to look to Congressman Jordan for leadership in the House."

The "Best and Brightest" designation is reserved for members of Congress who consistently vote to uphold conservative principles on fiscal, national defense, religious freedom, energy independence, life, and other issues.

In determining its ratings for 2007, the ACU scored 25 House votes, including a "yes" vote to expand offshore energy exploration and reduce gas prices. The average rating for House members in 2007 was 43 percent.

"I appreciate this high honor from the ACU, and thank the group for its ongoing commitment to the conservative cause," Jordan said. "We share the view that bold action is necessary to address the challenges we face: the need for more oil exploration to reach energy independence, the need to secure our borders against illegal immigration, the need for a stronger national defense to thwart terrorism, and the need for fiscal discipline to cut wasteful spending from the federal budget."
