Jordan questions AG Lynch about DOJ, IRS response to targeting scandal

November 17, 2015
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) questioned Attorney General of the United States Loretta Lynch today about the U.S. Department of Justice's muted response to the Internal Revenue Service's actions regarding targeting of conservative organizations. In particular, Rep. Jordan questioned Attorney General Lynch about the Justice Department's failure to prosecute anyone from the IRS for failing to preserve documents and for failing to notify Congress about it in a timely fashion.

During the questioning, Rep. Jordan made the following comments:

"Here's what the American people want to know, Attorney General: What was it going to take before you would take this to a Grand Jury? Would Mr. Koskinen – would he have had to wait five months before he told us? Six months before he told us? Eight months before he told us? Would they have had to destroy 423 back-up tapes? 450 back-up tapes? Would they have to destroy every single back-up tape? Would they have to destroy more evidence? What was it going to take before you were going to take this to a grand jury with three preservation orders in place, two subpoenas in place, they have knowledge that there's problems with their hard drive, that they don't have all her emails, and they destroy the back-up tapes? If that fact pattern doesn't warrant going to a grand jury and prosecuting, tell me what would."
