Jordan questions Justice Department official about Comey's Loretta Lynch comments
During the hearing, Rep. Jordan asked Downing whether he had been involved in the situation at all, and about various aspects of the situation.
Rep. Jordan concluded:
"The highest officials at the Department of Justice should be straight with the American people, and that did not happen. … And they were misled at the direction of the attorney general! Mr. Comey's testimony was real clear, he even questioned – he said, ‘Do we really want to do that? Don't we want to tell the American people the truth?' And yet he followed, he carried out the order from the attorney general to mislead the American people and say it was a ‘matter,' not an ‘investigation,' and of course as I've said a couple times, he allowed the perception to continue that our current president of the United States was under investigation when in fact he was not."
