Jordan Statement on the President's Iraq Address
May 6, 2009
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) today issued the following statement in reaction to President Bush's speech on the war in Iraq:
America's support for our troops, both at home and abroad, must never waver. I join President Bush in reaffirming our deep appreciation for the brave service of our men and women in uniform.
I am pleased to hear the President articulate his vision for how to improve our strategy and tactics in Iraq. Fostering a democratic Iraq is critical to the overall War on Terrorism, and success there is our only option.
I regret the suggestion of some leading Democrats that Congress cut funding for our troops. Such a policy would be devastating to our ability to succeed, and I will resist any such effort that would diminish our commitment to the American military.
I look forward to engaging all of my House colleagues in a real, open debate on how best to support our servicemen and women, to succeed in our mission, and to bring them home as quickly as possible.
