Jordan statement on recovery of 30,000 Lois Lerner e-mails

November 21, 2014
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) made the following comments regarding today's revelation that the IRS had recovered 30,000 of former IRS employee Lois Lerner's missing e-mails:

Once again John Koskinen and the IRS have told us something that has been proven inaccurate. In June, Commissioner Koskinen told Congress that the IRS had confirmed that back-up tapes containing the missing Lois Lerner e-mails had been destroyed. Now the Inspector General has identified up to 30,000 of those e-mails from back-up tapes.

The IRS has continually dragged its feet, changed its story, and been less than forthcoming with information related to its egregious violation of Americans' First Amendment rights. These e-mails are long overdue, and underscore again why we need a special prosecutor to conduct an unhindered investigation. Hopefully these e-mails will help us get to the truth, and help ensure the American people get the justice they deserve.
