Jordan statement on Roe v. Wade anniversary, H.R. 7

January 22, 2015
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) made the following statement regarding the 42nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade and the vote by the U.S. House of Representatives to pass H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act:

"Today Americans again remember the tragic Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade that has resulted in the deaths of over 56 million unborn babies in the last 42 years. And once again, thousands of Americans are making their way to the National Mall to march for life in defense of the unborn.

"The passion and commitment of the Pro-Life cause, seen most vividly in the faces of the Millennials who show up in droves for the annual March for Life, is woven into the fabric of our nation. In the Declaration of Independence, the Founders listed the right to life among our unalienable God-given rights. I believe we are, and pray we will continue, on the path to restoring a culture of life in America once again.

"Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. This bill is a nationally popular piece of legislation that codifies restricting the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for the taking of innocent life. The vast majority of Americans – 68 percent according to a Marist poll from this month – support this common-sense policy. The Senate must act on this populist legislation that puts the will of Americans, not the political elites in Washington, into law."
