Jordan statement on unprovoked Hamas attacks against Israel

July 10, 2014
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) made the following comments concerning the unprovoked rocket attacks from the terrorist organization Hamas against the State of Israel:

"I fully support the right of the State of Israel to defend itself against unprovoked rocket attacks from the terrorist organization Hamas. Hamas has continually shown that it does not seek peace in the region, but the destruction of a people group that has historically called the Middle East home. Since June of this year, the terrorist group has fired almost 300 rockets at Israel, and has indiscriminately targeted innocent Israeli civilians, not just military installations. Hamas threatens more than half the country's population with its rockets, and common sense and compassion dictate that the U.S. should support its long-time ally's effort to defend the lives and livelihoods of its people. I am proud to support the people of Israel in their time of need.

"If the Palestinian Authority is truly serious about making peace with its neighbor Israel, it must sever ties with Hamas. The PA cannot have it both ways – they cannot claim to seek peace on the one hand while remaining linked to a terrorist group that ideologically opposes such peace. Congressional support for the PA can only continue if the PA severs ties with Hamas."
