JSMC Building to Be Named for Mike Oxley, Jordan Announces

May 7, 2009
Legislation expected to be signed into law this month authorizes the naming of a building at Lima's Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC) for former Congressman Michael G. Oxley, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has announced.

"Throughout his career in Congress, Mike Oxley was a strong advocate for JSMC, a critical part of our national defense infrastructure," Jordan said. "He worked tirelessly through numerous base closure rounds to ensure that Lima remained up and running and contributing to a strong national defense."

The provision, included in the final version of the 2008 Department of Defense authorization bill, formally names the new administration building at JSMC as the Michael G. Oxley Administration and Technology Center. In 2005, Oxley secured resources to construct this facility to accommodate cutting-edge vehicle construction at the plant. Jordan attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the building in March.

The overall defense authorization bill, which passed by a vote of 370 to 49 today, establishes budget authority for the Department of Defense and certain Department of Energy programs. Separate legislation signed into law last month included significant funding for Abrams tank upgrades, Stryker light armored vehicle procurement, and other programs vital to JSMC.
