National Taxpayers Union: Jordan Record Most Fiscally Responsible in Ohio

July 22, 2014
The National Taxpayers Union Foundation's (NTUF) recently-released BillTally report lists Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) as having the most fiscally responsible legislative agenda among Ohio's Congressional Delegation.

Jordan supported over $183 billion in net budget cuts, which was more cuts than all but 19 members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Some in Washington think the federal government can continue to spend more than we take in, forever. The families and taxpayers I have the privilege of representing know that math doesn't add up," said Jordan. "That's why I have been fighting so hard to get spending under control, so we can balance the budget and start to pay down the debt that threatens to cripple our children and grandchildren. People work too hard for Washington to waste their money. We in Congress should continually look for ways to trim the budget and be responsible stewards of people's money," Jordan added.

The NTUF study analyzes the fiscal impact of members' legislative agendas by cross-referencing its database of scored bills with each senator and representative's sponsorship and co-sponsorship records. NTUF found that legislation introduced in the first session of the 113th Congress proposed a net $1.1 trillion increase (680 spending increase proposals and 119 savings proposals, after accounting for overlaps and offsets between chambers). The House proposed a net $1.17 trillion increase (496 increase bills, 112 savings bills). The Senate proposed a net $620 billion increase (266 increase bills, 51 savings bills).
