Jordan Speaks Out on Budget

This morning, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) delivered the following remarks at the weekly Republican Leadership Press Conference, joining Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH), Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA, Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-IN), Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX) and Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

"The Democrats are going to punt on the budget, even though the law says four weeks ago today we were supposed to have a budget resolution in place.  And here's their dilemma: on one hand they have a president who has submitted a budget who according to his own budget director is unsustainable.  And on the other hand, they've got the American people who understand we need to get spending under control, we need to get some fiscal sanity back in the government, and so they're going to take a pass, even though the American family, the American small business owner doesn't get to take a pass.  They have to set guidelines, they have to set spending priorities, they have to establish budgets, but here they're seeing their own government take a pass, especially in this climate where we see what's happening with Greece, where they didn't make the tough decisions that needed to be made.  So we're calling on Chairman Spratt to do what he said in 2006 when he said, "If you can't budget, you can't govern."  We want them to go through the process, have the debate, have the markup, give us a chance to debate this issue in front of the American people, offer our alternatives so the American people can see that we have some fiscal sanity hopefully coming back to government.  Thank you."
