Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) released the following statement regarding his vote against the debt limit deal agreed to by President Obama and Congressional leaders.

"At the beginning of the year, Democrats demanded a blank check increase in the debt limit with absolutely no spending cuts attached.  When that didn't work, they demanded an upfront agreement for huge tax increases on America's job creators.  Conservatives stood firm, and we succeeded in forcing Washington to begin addressing its spending-driven debt crisis."

"Just a few weeks ago, the Balanced Budget Amendment wasn't even a part of the conversation, despite the overwhelming support it has among the American public. Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group of conservatives, it is now an integral part of the debate over how to solve America's spending problem."

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) released the following statement after voting for the Better Use of Light Bulbs (BULB) Act, ending the government-ordered ban on traditional incandescent lighting enacted in 2007.

"By nature, Americans do not like being told what to do. It goes against who we are and the freedoms we enjoy in this country. I've understood this through the objections of my constituents to the massive healthcare overhaul passed by a liberal Congress and their outrage over the BULB Act.

Control Debt, Pass Balanced Budget Amendment

Our Constitution has endured the passage of time with remarkably few changes, being amended just 27 times in 223 years. Unfortunately, America's debt limit has not been nearly so stable. Since World War II, Congress has increased the limit on the national debt 69 times. The reasons behind this disparity tell an important story.

The House is expected to vote today on a bill to raise federal government's legal debt limit by $2.4 trillion.  Rep. Jim Jordan (R- Urbana), Chairman of the  Republican Study Committee, released the following statement rejecting this blank check approach and calling for the adoption of the RSC's "Cut, Cap, and Balance" plan.

A Logan County student was named the Fourth Congressional District winner of this year's Congressional Art Competition, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has announced.

William Kennedy, a student at Benjamin Logan High School, won the district-wide competition with his pencil drawing. This piece, entitled Autumn Pathway will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year.
