Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) issued the following statement on the sudden passing of Ohio Congressman Paul E. Gillmor:

My family and I join all of Ohio in expressing our shock and sadness at Paul's passing.

Paul was a proud Republican, a proud Air Force veteran, and a longtime congressional leader in international issues. His two decades in Congress were preceded by an impressive 22-year career in the Ohio Senate, during which he served three terms as President of the Senate.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced today that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has approved a $62,083 operations and safety grant for the Port Jefferson Community Fire Company.

"This is outstanding news for Port Jefferson," Jordan said. "These funds will help the department's first responders be better prepared to fight fires and save lives."

It is incredible how a week can change things.

Let me begin by thanking each and every person in our district who, through their prayers and other actions, helped families and businesses make their way through last week's floods.

Many people with experience in hurricane recovery said that parts of our district were reminiscent of the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

 Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) will host Steven C. Preston, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), on a tour of flood-damaged areas of Wyandot and Hancock Counties on Friday, August 31.

Jordan and Preston will visit disaster recovery centers (DRCs) set up in both counties by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) following last week's catastrophic flooding.

The tour follows a visit to Hancock County last week by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and FEMA Director R. David Paulison.

  Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) today invited Steven C. Preston, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), to tour flood-damaged businesses and meet with affected residents in Ohio's Fourth Congressional District.

The request follows a visit to Hancock County last week by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director R. David Paulison to see the effects of last week's intense rainfall in north central and northwestern Ohio.
