  The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has approved $20,425 in operations and safety grant funding for Logan County's Bokescreek Township Fire Department, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced today.

"This is outstanding news for Bokescreek Township," Jordan said. "This funding will help the township's first responders be better prepared to fight fires and save lives throughout their jurisdiction."

 Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) offered the following remarks on the National Transportation Safety Board's (NTSB) final report on the tragic bus crash involving Bluffton University student-athletes in Atlanta on March 2, 2007:

I want to commend the families and the Bluffton community for their patience in awaiting this report. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with them and everyone who was affected by the tragedy.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) today assailed a 5-4 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that effectively bans states from imposing the death penalty for those convicted of child rape.

"It is outrageous that five liberal Supreme Court justices can strike down a state law because they believe the law is too tough on child rapists," Jordan stated. "If there is ever an issue that has no business being decided by the federal courts, it is the laws a community passes to protect itself from violent criminals."

  Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) welcomed today's House passage of critical intelligence-gathering legislation.

"At long last, Congress is doing the responsible thing by passing a surveillance bill that ensures our continued ability to listen in on terrorist communications," Jordan said.

The legislation modernizes and extends the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which allows our intelligence services to monitor communications from foreign terror suspects to points inside the United States. It passed the House today on a 293 to 129 vote.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) applauded passage of a legislative package that includes full funding for American troops on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as additional benefits for veterans and soldiers returning home.

The package, which passed the House today, provides an additional $161.8 billion for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. It also includes $62.8 billion for GI Bill programs that help provide educational opportunities for veterans.

   The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved $240,617 in entitlement funding to the City of Sidney for airport improvements, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has announced.

"Air infrastructure is important to every community and every local economy in our congressional district," Jordan said. "The businesses and individuals who rely on Sidney Municipal Airport will greatly benefit from the improvements made possible through these funds."

While in Mansfield on Tuesday, June 3, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) will offer his support to Richland County Judge James DeWeese, who faces legal action from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for a poster displayed in his courtroom that includes language from the Ten Commandments.

Jordan will also launch an online petition effort for the community to demonstrate its support of DeWeese's courtroom display.
