Government Reform

I agree with most Ohioans that our Federal Government spends far too much and is overly large, cumbersome and bureaucratic. Many of the roles currently filled by government agencies would be better left to individuals, private businesses and non-profit organizations. I take my government oversight responsibilities very seriously, and am well-positioned to work on this issue from my seat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. During the 114th Congress I will continue to consider and propose ways to reduce government spending and eliminate redundancy in government agencies.

"I'm not a Democrat who believes that we can or should defend every government program, just because it's there. Like the Export-Import Bank that's become little more than a fund for corporate welfare." These are the words of Barack Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign.

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan made the following comments today regarding the expiration of the Export-Import Bank's charter:

"This is a great day for taxpayers around the country who are fed up with cronyism in Washington. The charter of the Export-Import Bank, the ‘bridge to nowhere' of corporate welfare, expired at midnight. The Bank has long been emblematic of Washington working for special interests and not for everyday Americans.

Today's hearing continues the Committee's important work examining the Export-Import Bank. In just 19 days the Bank's charter is set to expire. When this happens, the sky will not fall. The seas will not rise. In fact, in my view, and in the view of many economists, quite the opposite will happen.

The expiration of the Bank's charter will mean that companies doing business overseas will reorient themselves away from Washington and towards market signals. The Bank's absence will make our economy stronger.

President Obama told Americans that if they liked their healthcare plans, they could keep them. He said that if Americans liked their doctors, they could keep them. Americans were told that the Obamacare website would work. Americans were told it was secure. Americans were told that premiums would go down by $2,500 for a family.
