This weekend, our nation marks Veterans Day, an observance established to commemorate the end of World War I in 1918. That war can seem to many like ancient history, eclipsed by other conflicts in the last 90 years that have changed the landscape of the world and helped free countless millions from the bonds of tyranny.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced today that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has approved a $39,206 operations and safety grant for the Bluffton Fire Department.

"Competition for federal funding is always tough, and Bluffton is a most deserving recipient," Jordan said. "This grant will help Bluffton's first responders be better prepared to fight fires and save lives."

 Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) joined House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-West Chester) in calling on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to decide whether to allow the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) to issue federal permits for the state's large livestock and poultry farms.

Jordan and Boehner, who together represent the majority of Ohio's permitted livestock and poultry farms, said that the move would follow a successful precedent dating back several years.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) criticized congressional Democrats for refusing to permanently ban Internet access taxes.

By a vote of 21 to 15 today, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee defeated an amendment sponsored by Jordan and three other committee Republicans that would prevent state and local governments from leveling discriminatory access taxes on Internet users. A temporary ban currently in place is slated to expire on November 1.

 Following a party-line defeat of legislation he offered today to ban federal infrastructure dollars from being used to pay lobbyists, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) questioned the commitment of Democrats to fiscal accountability and lobbying reform.

"An important step in bringing fiscal responsibility to Washington is being able to look taxpayers in the eye and say that money spent in their name is going toward its intended purposes, not to line the pockets of lobbyists," said Jordan.

Jordan Announces Grant for Bellefontaine Fire Department

Washington, DC --   Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced today that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has approved a $109,108 operations and safety grant for the Bellefontaine Fire Department.

"This announcement is outstanding news for Bellefontaine," Jordan said.  "These funds will help the city's first responders be better prepared to fight fires and save lives."  Jordan notified Chief James Holycross of the grant by telephone today.
