Today, Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) motioned to bring a privileged resolution to the House Floor to impeach the IRS Commissioner. The House Freedom Caucus released the following statement:

“We strongly support this effort to remove the IRS Commissioner from office. For too long, John Koskinen has been able to get away with stonewalling Congress, obstructing justice, and breaching the public trust. The right to pursue impeachment is an indispensable power vested in Congress that should be used when necessary to hold government officials accountable to the American people.

The American people see two sets of rules: one for the powerful and politically connected and another for ordinary Americans. An average American under investigation by the IRS would wind up fined or in jail if they conducted themselves the way the IRS Commissioner did. Unless Congress acts, John Koskinen – like Lerner, Holder, and Clinton– will be able to get away with abuse of his office as well. We urge our House colleagues to listen to the American people and hold Commissioner Koskinen accountable.”

Mission statement of the House Freedom Caucus:

“The House Freedom Caucus gives a voice to countless Americans who feel that Washington does not represent them. We support open, accountable and limited government, the Constitution and the rule of law, and policies that promote the liberty, safety, and prosperity of all Americans.”
