The American Conservative Union (ACU), the nation's oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization, has named Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) one of the House's "Best and Brightest" members for his 100-percent conservative voting record in 2007.

"Congressman Jordan's 100-percent rating reflects his consistent support for conservative ideals across a broad range of issues," said Larry Hart, the ACU's Director of Government Relations. "Grassroots conservatives in Ohio and across the country will continue to look to Congressman Jordan for leadership in the House."

  A defense bill passed by the House of Representatives would provide more than $1 billion for Stryker light armored vehicles manufactured at Lima's Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC) and related sites, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has announced.

The provision is included in the Fiscal Year 2009 Department of Defense authorization bill, which was approved with Jordan's support by a 384 to 23 vote tonight.

 Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) today blasted a Democrat-sponsored budget conference report that calls for the largest tax increase in American history.

"Once again, Congress has its priorities all wrong," said Jordan, a member of the House Budget Committee. "In uncertain economic times, with rising energy and food prices, Congress should be putting the federal budget on a diet instead of feeding it."

 Legislation debated today by the House of Representatives authorizes significant funding for a new veterans clinic in Mansfield, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has announced.

H.R. 5856, the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Facility Authorization and Lease Act, approves various VA construction projects and medical facility leases for Fiscal Year 2009. Included in the bill is language authorizing the VA to construct a new 27,500-square-foot outpatient clinic in Mansfield at a cost of $2,212,000.

A Riverside High School student was named the Fourth Congressional District winner of this year's Congressional Art Competition, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has announced.

Andrea McCully, who will attend Urbana University in the fall, won the district-wide competition with her charcoal drawing entitled "2nd Lieutenant Mary Margaret Miksh." This piece, her first charcoal work, will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year.

  Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) will address new United States citizens at a naturalization ceremony in Findlay on Monday, April 21.

"Our nation has a proud and longstanding tradition of legal immigration," Jordan said. "I'm honored to be among the first to congratulate these new citizens who have worked hard to complete the citizenship process. They can take great pride in this accomplishment."

Area media are welcome to cover Jordan at the ceremony, which will be held at the University of Findlay's Koehler Center from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM.

 Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) has been named a recipient of the 2007 Taxpayers' Friend Award by the nation's largest pro-taxpayer group, the 362,000-member nonpartisan National Taxpayers Union (NTU).

The award is presented to members of Congress who achieve an "A" rating in the NTU's annual report analyzing congressional votes on fiscal policy. In 2007, 427 House votes were rated.

 In his first full-day hearing as a member of the House Budget Committee, Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) offered amendments to reduce the proposed amount of spending in the $3.1 trillion Democrat budget bill.

"This budget proposes to spend an astonishing $100,000 a second, $6 million a minute, $350 million an hour--every day for a year," Jordan said. "Our economy simply cannot sustain this obscene amount of spending."
