Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) announced today that the Department of Homeland Security has approved $4,901 in operations and safety funding for the Vanlue Fire Department.

The funding is made available through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, through which DHS will award roughly $500 million to fire departments and other emergency responders across the nation this year.

The Office of Congressman Jim Jordan today urged local governments, businesses, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions interested in competing for funding from the federal stimulus bill to visit a new website provided by the State of Ohio.  The website is www.recovery.ohio.gov.

There, entities will be asked to provide their contact information, details about the project for which they are seeking funding, the cost and timeframe of the project, and how many jobs the project is expected to create or maintain.

Rep. Jordan encourages high school students across the Fourth Congressional District to submit their artwork in the 2009 Congressional Art Contest.

A county winner will be chosen in each of the eleven counties; Allen, Auglaize, Champaign, Hancock, Hardin, Logan, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Shelby and Wyandot.

The district winner will be chosen from the eleven entries and their artwork will hang in the United States Capitol for one year in a display of winners from across the country.
